ONPATTRO® Infusion Therapy

About ONPATTRO® Infusion Therapy
ONPATTRO® is a prescription medicaine used to treat adults with polyneuropathy (nerve damage) caused by hereditarty transthyretin-mediated (hATTR) amyloidosis. It belongs to a class of drugs called RNA interference therapy (sometimes called a gene silencer). ONPATTRO® was designated an 'orphan medicine' (a medicine used in rare diseases.
Condition treated by this therapy
- Polyneuropathy caused by hereditary transthyretin-mediated hATTR
- People with hATTR amyloidosis that have an abnormality in the gene that carries the instruction code for TTR protein
The active substance in ONPATTRO®, pastisiran, is a small interfering RNA' (siRNA), a very short piece of synthetic genetic material of the cell responsible for production of defective transthyretin. This reduces production of defective transthyretin, therby reducing the formation of amyloids and relieving the symptoms of hATTR amyloidosis.
